From desk to dinner: one dress, two ways

A single midi dress can carry a nine-hour day if you style it in two passes. Here is the swap list we use in the studio.

The best travel and workday dresses share one quality: they read as two different outfits depending on what you put over and under them. Our studio rule is simple — one silhouette, two accessory stories, no changing room required.

Daytime: structure on top

Add a blazer with a defined shoulder, a flat shoe and a structured tote. Keep jewelry small. This is the version that reads composed in a meeting and comfortable on a long walk between appointments.

Evening: remove the structure, change the metal

Swap the blazer for a light pullover worn open, or drop the layer entirely and add a heel and a slightly larger earring. Warm metal against a deep moss or burgundy reads evening without any effort at all.

If a dress cannot survive both halves of that list, it does not earn its space in the closet. Most of ours do, which is why they are the pieces our customers tell us they reorder.
